This event is a great opportunity for companies and organizations to get Brand Awareness.

History and Origin of this Event: “Since 1992, the United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) has been celebrated annually on 3 December around the world. The theme for this year’s International Day is “Achieving 17 Goals for the Future We Want”. This theme notes the recent adoption of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the role of these goals in building a more inclusive and equitable world for persons with disabilities. This year’s objectives include assessing the current status of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and SDGs and laying the foundation for a future of greater inclusion for persons with disabilities.
Observance of the 2016 IDPD coincides with the 10-year anniversary of the adoption of the CRPD – one of the most quickly and widely ratified international treaties put forth by the United Nations to date. The Day will take stock of progress since the Convention’s adoption in 2006 and will reflect on the 166 ratifications it has earned thus far. Events at the IDPD 2016 will emphasize efforts toward universal ratification of the CRPD, ideas for the continued advancement of the goals of the convention, and reflection on the challenges that remain toward the full realization of the CRPD’s goals.
Additionally, this year’s IDPD will pay a special attention to issues concerning accessibility and inclusion of persons with disabilities in the context of urban development, following the Third UN Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III). As Habitat III promotes a New Urban Agenda for the world’s cities and towns in the next two decades, the IDPD will allow experts from a diverse array of backgrounds to explore and exchange strategies and to best implement the New Urban Agenda and promote inclusive and accessible urban development for all, including persons with disabilities.”
