ADHD financial assistance

by Katrina
(Dryden)

My 10 year old son was diagnosed with ADD/ADHD. I had tried him on medication reluctantly for 7 months and I found no benefits from it.

In fact, I found his behaviours at home to worsen and my son was terrified of taking the medication everyday. I am trying to find alternate treatments especially with getting extra help in the classroom.

Unfortunately there is no extra funding to have one on one teaching for him with so many cutbacks in the public school system.

Is there more out there that I can explore in the way of treatments, programs and is there financial assistance available that I don't know about?

Thanks
Katrina

Hi Katrina,

Lots of questions here.

1) what medication is he taking?
2) who does your taxes?

My situation is I have two sons with similar problems. Feel free to drop me a line. I may be able to help and share what I know.

The schools have access to a computer and a program called dragon that they can order for your child. They have to do an assessment and then they have to give him a computer to use for the school year. There is also some kind of headset they can use to help him not be distracted and be able to zero in on the lesson better. Keep annoying the school and go to the school board and you physician untill they give him the educational help he needs and that he is supposed to have.
Good luck, ADHD kids I have often found to be exceptionally intelligent and get board in school

ADHD assistance

Hi, I got my daughter through school by adjusting her diet - one of her teachers advised us to go the natural route when the rest of the staff (and the doc) wanted meds. I am so glad I listened to this one teacher (she was an adult with ADHD AND a teacher; what a role model!) At first it was hard, but once we eliminated artificial dyes and additives my daughter got noticeably less revved up. (The school even had me write the diet out for others.)
I'd like to ask parents to look and see if their child's ears get red after eating something like Skittles.... if they are, then try substituting for a while and see if you get any improvements. Good luck.
