Is Harper autistic?
by: Anonymous

It just dawned on me that Harper may be autistic.
That would explain a lot about his behaviour.

Interesting!

That could be one of the kinder explanations:))

absolving of responsibility
by: Anonymous

The DSM which is an overly simplistic attempt to make black and white what is grey can be very misleading. That being said there may be a danger in absolving Harper of his atrocious acts based on a philosophy of greed and lack of compassion and empathy. I believe it would be doing a disservice to those with Asperger's- many of whom in contrast to the stereotype have much more capacity to empathize than is generally realized - to make the comparison with Harper.

I think this article fits in nicely here, whatever the diagnosis:

Siddiqui: Driven to distraction by Stephen Harper’s limousines in India

Harper is a SOCIOPATH - not Aspergers
by: Anonymous

Anonymous:

"As an adult Aspie myself, I'm positively THRILLED at the prospect of Harper having Aspergers. In fact it was the query if he has this special gift that led me to this thread.

Emotions are fine in some cases, extreme hindrances in others. The thought of having a leader that can get the job done without being influenced by emotion; who can base actions on whats sound and logical; who can stay the course and not be influenced by satirical cartoons and comedians is a HUGE source of inspiration and stability."

EXCEPT Harper is anything BUT logical in any way shape or form. Selling out the country to China doesn't seem very logical or smart to me.

Personally, I find the idea of Harper having Aspergers VERY offensive. The guy is an outright sociopath.

Stephen Harper must have Asperger's

I also suspect that Harper has Asperger's and I hope this issue becomes publicly highlighted.

Harper is a sociopath
by: Greg

Adult's with Asperger's appear to lack empathy but this does not usually stop them from acting in an empathic manner for they realize that this is the socially correct thing to do and it is the right thing to do even if they forget sometimes.

They also tend not to be manipulative even if they have OCD characteristics.

Harper's manipulative nature is over the top and this is the reason for all the control. He has a specific agenda based on neoconservative ideals that he is try to press on the rest of Canada.

Could you really see someone with Asperger's defending the baby seal hunt and promoting super prisons?

Not Aspergers ... probably avoiding depression
by: Aspie mom and wife

I don't think Stephen Harper is Aspergers. He thinks too much and is focused on more than a few things, not just politics. I've read that in his family history there tends to be a fair amount of depression. Maybe this is why he keeps himself so organized and structured so he isn't freaked out by stuff thrown at him. Years ago my (now retired)financial aspie husband had to go to a few meetings (with Harper stopping in) because of his job in the bureaucracy. My aspie is very disorganized and not structured and keeps all his information in his head. Harper is organized because of having to go from meeting to meeting and discussing different issues each time. He apparently is not freaked at having to move from meeting to meeting with different topics and different people. I also doubt he's a sociopath - he pays attention to people in each room and notes each issue. The staff is equally organized and it helped the business processes move smoothly. But this is opinion of a former bureaucrat trying to do his job.

are you serious?
by: mom

I have an adult relative with Asperberger's and this is the most appallingly inaccurate article I've ever seen. I know a few people with Asperger's and they all have different personalities and severity of symptoms. I don't find them to be lacking in empathy. You have Harper's psychopathy confused with Asperger's.

Aspergers or Sociopathology?

Stephen Harper is a Sociopath. He does not have Aspergers Syndrome.

Harper an Aspy? We should hope so!! Aspies rule!!

Stephen Harper Hologram or Asperger Syndrome?
by: Aspie Mom

Rick Mercer just spent a week with the party leaders and has a wonderfully revealing story to tell.

He wonders whether Stephen Harper is a hologram. :-)

Funny how Mercer's description of Harper's need for an exact routine sounds very familiar to Asperger's too. Right down to saying the exact same speech in the exact same way every time.

Even taking a sip of water at the exact same moment!

The other thing that reminded me of Asperger Syndrome was his reaction to a mechanical failure of his teleprompter.

For 7 long seconds, Harper was unable to adapt to the change in his situation. Sound familiar?

And the constant repetition of a request, without stop till the deed is done, is VERY familiar in my experience. And annoying. :-(

I pity all the people that work with him every day.

You can read the whole story in Macleans here:

Asperger Syndrome? OR

The behaviors you describe of Harpers having Asperger Syndrome, could also even be more accurately be described as ones of a sociopath/psychopath.

Who paid who to write this article?
by: Anonymous

I have knowledge of Asoerger Syndrome and this description is some what accurate.

However, most of the personal comments smack of being written by a political opponent!!

I do not agree with Stephen Harper's politics but if I knew the political party who wrote this smear "Ad", I wouldn't vote for them either. No politican is any where perfect as time has shown us. a.k.a. maggie

---

Editor's Note:
This is not an "ad" - like all submissions, including your own, there is no payment required.

Nor was it written by a political opponent. As you can see, there is no direction or suggestion as to who to vote for.

But, it does raise an interesting question. Since you described it as being "some what accurate" it looks like you agree with the writer.

You also raised another interesting question as to how "perfect" we want / need our leaders to be.

Thanks for expressing your opinion.
