Financial aid for a non resident child having cerebral palsy

by Deepa Pai
(Scarborough, ON)

Hi Graeme,

My name is Deepa and my daughter who is 2yrs and 5 months now was diagnosed for cerebral palsy when she was 1 1/2 months. Since then i was taking her for physiotherapy in India( where we r from ). We came to Canada just 7 months back mainly for her treatment. We are still not residents here. My husband is on a temporary work permit.

I am in the process of getting my daughter in to some rehabilitation centre where she can get the physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy. But i find that the costs for all these are very high which i cant afford .

I was wondering whether we are eligible for any financial aid from the government for her treatment.

My husband is the sole breadwinner and he pays tax to the Canadian govt. I am not receiving any benefits from the govt as of now. I am confident that if i give her treatment now she will be able to lead a better life.

Your answer is highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Deepa
