To ensure that kids from all parts of Toronto get to share their vision of what a city should be, some free admissions to the Salon will be given to families in need through the non profit groups Kids Up Front and Art City. Details below....
Details: Imagine a city designed entirely by kids.
The city theme at this year's Salon is a one-of-a-kind, one-day-only experience where kids and parents work with top architects, artists and thinkers to imagine and build the city of their dreams.
Families will be creating atop a humongous blueprint installed in the Ontario College of Art & Design's Great Hall, and suggesting the natural features of Toronto without any buildings or roads. This will help kids develop an alternative vision for the city.
Other programs at this unique event include an all-ages think tank, radical playground design, the creation of a wind powered art park, guerilla green missions, an urban planning obstacle course and the creation of dances and soundscapes inspired by the idea of "city".
Kids and parents will also be able to consult a giant Yahoo! Canada search interface to get answers to questions raised by the Salon's activities and exercise their photojournalism skills and document the day for Flickr.
If we get kids thinking about what makes a city great, we will end up with great cities.
