LIFE Toronto - Learning Independence for Future Empowerment

I want to let you know about our new program LIFE Toronto for youth ages 19 to 30 who have a physical disability.


Participants can attend all 5 days, or choose to attend only the parts of the program that they are interested in.



Location:
Ontario March of Dimes,
10 Overlea Blvd., Toronto




The Life Skills Workshops and Conductive Education - Mondays and Fridays

These are the topics for the workshops:
  • Week 1:
    How to create S.M.A.R.T Goals, Medical Passport

  • Week 2:
    Budget/ Banking, ODSP Credit card workshop, How to be more independent

  • Week 3:
    Active Living Alliance, Living on your own

  • Week 4:
    Healthy Relationships, Self- Esteem building, how to use technology safely

  • Week 5:
    Volunteer opportunities and part time work, resume cover letter, mock interviews

  • Week 6:
    Healthy eating, effects of alcohol & smoking

  • Week 7:
    Bullying workshop, directing my own care

  • Week 8:
    Develop a portfolio

  • Week 9:
    University/ college information, OSAP, self defense

  • Week 10:
    Goal evaluation, banquet


Conductive Education will be for a half day on Fridays.
What is Conductive Education?

AND/OR

Social Outings
- These will take place every Tuesday for 10 weeks. We will be meeting for fun organized activities mainly in Toronto. There will be 3 outings outside of Toronto (for these will will meet at March of Dimes and travel by bus).

AND/OR

Outward Bound Canada - Wednesdays and Thursdays for 10 weeks
Participants will work with OBC instructors in activities based around healthy active living at Evergreen Brickworks.
