MOVEMENT! AND ADAPTED YOGA PROGRAMS

by Stephanie Gottlob and Yuji Oka
(Toronto, ON, Canada)

MOVEMENT! and Adapted Yoga are two wonderful week-end programs offered by the Spiral Movement Center. These programs are designed for children/teens with a wide spectrum of challenges including ADHD, autism, hyperactivity and developmental delays. Founders Stephanie Gottlob and Yuji Oka first developed and implemented these programs in the United States, and they have been proven successful with hundreds of children with special needs.

MOVEMENT! is a full developmental curriculum which leads children through three stages of learning throughout the year: body grammar in the Fall, space & sequencing in the Winter and creative games in the Spring. In addition to gross motor skills, participants are taught foundational skills for the classroom - how to sit, take turns, interact with peers, demonstrate skills and become creatively independent.

The Adapted Yoga program is perfect for parents who wish for their child to gain independence and confidence in the process of learning. In addition to developing a greater physical awareness, participants will explore group interactions, breathing, massage and relaxation techniques.

Week-end year round classes will be presented in three 10 week sessions:

Fall Session: Oct 9-Dec. 12
Winter Session: Jan 8-March 13
Spring Session: April 2-June 5
