I was on ODSP years ago and have returned to it. I got lucky and was able to go under my first filing of years ago. I got a letter stating that I was accepted and received my monthly payments to include all the extra's of special diet and transportation.
Then this month after four months of inputing a new file because and OW said I had to do it that I was under assessment to see if I qualify.
Firstly over the years I have worked and collected EI and at times collected OW. No one told me that I could be placed back on ODSP immediately seeing how my medical condition had got worse. Now that I have received this letter after doing another form to file ODSP that I am told to continue to collect the funds and that they will let me know if I still qualify to collect these funds.
I live in Toronto in basement suite due to cost of renting and I want to move closer to my family in Hamilton and wonder if I move before they make there decision with this effect how they handle my file?
Also, if I move to Hamilton from Toronto I wonder if my monthly payments will change? I understand that the transportation portion will reflect the cost of transportation in Hamilton and it will go down but I wonder if my the rest of my cheque will go down.
I want to be able to budget so that I know that I can afford to this move. With this will I have to beg to do this? Hope someone can help me here.
can't live like this - ODSP and rent by: Anonymous
why are coops allowed to use your total housing costs to calculate your rent when part of that housing cost is for heat and hydro and was only increased because of rise of hydro costs The manager of my coop says there are 2 calculations and she chooses to use the one that pays more to the coop.
Why can't ODSP be forced to separate the housing charges from utilities or why can't coop be forced to calculate rent using yearly income?
I am a single Mom with 2 daughters and my rent went from $ 604 to $ 715.
Is there not a law that only allows a certain percentage increase in rent?

You have it right. Your transportation will go down and the rest will stay the same.
