past ODSP worker gives advice

There has been an interesting, sometimes heated discussion about ODSP going on, and today we received some great tips from a former ODSP staff member.

Things I didn't know...

You do not have to disclose your disability to your ODSP worker - it is considered private information.

Glasses and contact lenses are covered by ODSP.

Your community start up is available for MORE than 1x/12months.

And lots more, including who to go to for results if you have a problem.

To read all of the advice, go to the last comment on the page below.

Toronto home for sale

Well.. we're moving! Not far, as we really love the area, but just wanted to let you know in case you were interested in buying our existing home.

<a href="http://www.special-need-child-canada.com/Toronto-home-for-sale"><img src="http://my-north-york-home.com/images/toronto-homes-for-sale-downsview-bungalow-2.jpg" width="360" height="180" alt="Toronto home for sale in North York" title="Downsview home for sale" border="0" align="middle" /></a>

The house is in the Downsview area of North York,
close to Highway 401, highway 400, 2 subway stations, Yorkdale mall, daycare, 2 schools, a park, community centre and everything... :-)

If you have special need children like we do, it's also a great location because of both the daycare and the public elementary school at the end of my street are well versed in dealing with special needs.

The daycare (also at the end of the street) used to be one of the 27 daycares in Toronto specifically designated for special needs. Toronto changed the rules a while back so that all daycares need to provide services, but you can't beat experience.

I can tell you from first hand experience that the staff at that daycare are really on the ball as far as identifying special needs as well as accommodating them.

In fact, they recognized the autistic tendencies in my youngest son before I did. They were also on the ball as far as getting resources in - like the Toronto Preschool Speech and Language team.

Can you tell I love this daycare? :-)

The current principal at the public school is also very knowledgeable and supportive as well - although in our case we decided to homeschool our youngest, for now at least.

In any event, if you're interested just click on the link below.

If your child has cerebral palsy, or any other disability that results in an unsteady gait, then you've probably found shoe shopping to be a chore - especially if you are also shopping for shoes that will accommodate ankle-foot orthotics (AFOs).

Just wanted to let you know about these great shoes we've found that fit the bill perfectly, and are also reasonable priced!

Here's the shoe and the link to buy it from the same place we did:
