Special Needs Child, Maternity leave ending

Hello, we have a 15 month old daughter with Down's Syndrome. She has issues with her breathing and requires to be connected to a oxygen saturation monitor while she sleeps.

This monitor rings constantly at night and while 99% of them are false alarms we need to leave the monitor running in case she needs intervention.

This scenario has my wife in a constant zombie state as she is the primary caregiver and has me sleeping in the basement so I can continue to work.

The issue is that my wife (who is a nurse) has to go back to work in 2 weeks but with our daughters current needs we can't imagine how this is remotely possible.

Any inquiries we have made have been met with stop gap suggested solutions such as stress leave where my wife is told "don't mention your daughter at all".

There must be programs/funding available for situations where respite care is needed. In our particular case we would need someone to monitor our daughter while she sleeps at night.

The most logical choice obviously is for my wife's maternity benefits to be extended until our daughter grows out of her breathing problems.

We did receive some money as part of a respite program but it was really meant as a way to give my wife a breather now and again and is nowhere near what's needed for this particular scenario.

I checked the HC site and don't really see anything of use.
